The Quebec Bulldogs were a professional ice hockey team from Quebec . The team was founded in 1888 as Quebec Athletics and played as an amateur team in the Amateur Hockey Association . The Bulldogs were a founding member of the National Hockey League even if they did not participate in the first few years for financial reasons. In 1920 the team moved and from then on acted as Hamilton Tigers .

history

The Bulldogs' origins date back to 1888 when the team played as Quebec HC in the Amateur Hockey Association . The league was replaced by the Canadian Amateur Hockey League in 1898 , in which the team won the championship for the first time in 1904. From 1906 they played in the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association until they first played under the name Bulldogs from 1909 in the Canadian Hockey Association .

The Quebec Bulldogs Stanley Cup winning team (1913)

For the 1910/11 season the team joined the National Hockey Association and was able to win not only the league title, but also the Stanley Cup there in 1912 and 1913 . Even then, Joe Malone was in the ranks of the team. For a few more years they were among the top teams of the NHA, but then a few weaker years followed.

When some teams decided to found a new league, the National Hockey League , the Bulldogs were among the founding members. In the first two years you could not participate in the league for financial reasons. Their star, Joe Malone, was given to the Montreal Canadiens for this time . There he became the first top scorer of the NHL and set some records that are still valid today .

For the 1919/20 season , the Quebec Bulldogs competed in the NHL. Joe Malone returned to the team. Despite his strong performance, which earned him the title of top scorer for the second time, the Bulldogs could only win four of 24 games and were last. It was decided to sell the team to Hamilton and so the team entered the future as Hamilton Tigers .
