The 41st International Tennis Championships in Germany took place from July 15 to July 23, 1939 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

Hilde Sperling won the women's singles title for the sixth time in a row and only lost nine games in five games. In the absence of the Australian defending champions Thelma Coyne and Nancye Wynne , she and Änne Schneider also won the women's doubles against the Dutchwoman Madzy Rollin Couquerque and Anneliese Ullstein . In addition to the Australians, the French had not come to Hamburg this year, so new titleholders were also sought in men's doubles and mixed. The American duo Gracyn Wheeler and Gene Smith won the mixed doubles and the two Germans Henner Henkel and Roderich Menzel won the men's doubles . These two also faced each other in the individual finals, which Henner Henkel won, with which he was able to win this title for the second time after 1937. The Hungarian defending champion Ottó Szigeti was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Rolf Göpfert . Engelbert Koch from Münster also reached the semifinals .
