Yvon Petra (born March 8, 1916 in Saigon , Vietnam , † September 12, 1984 in Paris ) was a French tennis player .

Petra was the successor to the “ four musketeers ” ( Henri Cochet , Jean Borotra , René Lacoste and Jacques Brugnon ) who caused a sensation on international tennis courts in the twenties and thirties. In 1946 he won the men's singles at Wimbledon . In doubles he succeeded in 1938 and 1946 a victory at the International French Tennis Championships , which he won in 1937 in mixed. He won the French Open Tennis Championships in Paris from 1943 to 1945, which, however, did not enjoy Grand Slam status in those years.

Petra went down in the history of Wimbledon with something special: He was the last tennis player to wear long trousers as a player on Center Court. His victory was also remarkable because of a war injury, since he sustained a serious injury to his left knee as a soldier in World War II . Until the end of the war he stayed in a prisoner of war camp.

In the Davis Cup , Petra played a total of 22 games for France , of which he was able to win 15.

In 2016 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
