The 46th International Tennis Championships in Germany took place from August 2 to August 10, 1952 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

This time the tournament stretched over two weekends. Admission prices of up to 17 DM meant that the audience did not appear quite as numerous as in previous years. Among them was Gottfried von Cramm , who this time was unable to take part due to a shoulder injury.

In the men's competition, defending champion Lennart Bergelin did not run again and last year's final opponent Sven Davidson was no longer in the form of the previous year after starting his studies. The favorite Jaroslav Drobný could not win the tournament either, but the South African Eric Sturgess , who competed in Hamburg for the first time.

Drobný won the men's doubles alongside the Australian Ian Ayre , while Sturgess was successful in mixed doubles with Dorothy Head . Head replaced the Australian Nancye Bolton , who had not come back, as a three-time title holder after a year-long absence . Your final opponent in the individual was the national German champion Erika Vollmer .
