The 1993 Citizen Cup was a WTA hard court tennis tournament for women in Hamburg . It was part of the 1993 WTA Tour as a Tier II category tournament . The tournament took place from April 26th to May 2nd, 1993.

In the individual, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario won against Steffi Graf 6: 3 and 6: 3. In doubles, the pairing Steffi Graf / Rennae Stubbs won 6: 4 and 7: 6 against Larisa Neiland / Jana Novotná .

Assassination attempt on Monica Seles

On April 30, 1993 Monica Seles was stabbed in the back with a 22 centimeter long kitchen knife when she changed sides during her quarterfinal encounter against the Bulgarian Magdalena Maleewa by the mentally disturbed Günter Parche , a German fan of her strongest competitor Steffi Graf.
