The 68th International Tennis Championships in Germany took place from May 20 to 26, 1974 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .
The tournament was part of the Grand Prix Circuit set up by the ILTF (for both men and women) . At the same time, the British Hard Court Championships took place in Bournemouth as another Grand Prix tournament .
In the men's singles, defending champion Eddie Dibbs was again successful. In the final, he beat Hajo Plötz , who only got into the main draw with his new steel bat after qualifying. Jürgen Faßbender and Hans-Jürgen Pohmann defended the title in the men's doubles . At the side of Heide Orth , Fassbender also won the mixed title, with which the couple was successful for the third time after 1971 and 1972. For the mixed doubles, however, only six couples competed. This competition, which was held for the first time in 1906, was now held for the last time.
In the women's singles, Helga Masthoff was victorious for the third time in a row. She won the final against 17-year-old Martina Navrátilová . At her last appearance in Hamburg, Helga Hösl won the women's doubles alongside the Argentinean Raquel Giscafré after her titles in mixed in 1965 and singles in 1971. For the last time, the 35-year-old Christian Kuhnke , who had to qualify and could not play in the main field, also competed.
