Helga Masthoff
Helga Masthoff (born Helga Niessen on November 11, 1941 in Essen ) is a former German tennis player .
She was the most successful German tennis player after the war until the early 1980s, when Sylvia Hanika had her best time. In 1968 at the Olympic Games in Mexico , when tennis was a demonstration competition, she won gold in women's singles and doubles (with Edda Buding ) and silver in mixed (with Jürgen Faßbender ).
Her greatest international successes thereafter were victories at the German Open from 1972 to 1974, where she defeated Martina Navrátilová in the 1974 final , and participation in the French Open in 1970 , when she only had to admit defeat in the final Margaret Court . In the Federation Cup she was with Germany in 1966 and 1970 in the final, which was lost. In total, she took part in 56 Federation Cup matches and left the place as the winner 38 times.
Helga Masthoff played for ETuF Essen . With her club she won the German women's team championship several times.
