Slipmat
A slipmat is a circular mat made of felt or neoprene that enables scratching and beat matching of vinyl records . The disc with a normal diameter of 30 cm is provided with a hole in the middle and can easily be exchanged with the turntable pad, which is usually made of rubber. The slipmat reduces the friction between a record and the rotating platter . This facilitates the jerky movement of the record by hand and makes various hip-hop music techniques such as scratching, backspin or beat juggling possible. Without the mat, the records would be scratched. In addition, a circular piece of paper (baking paper or vinyl sleeve liner) is usually placed between the slipmat and the turntable to minimize friction to such an extent that the record can be "spun" against the direction of rotation of the turntable. This increases the effect of the Slipmat many times over.
