The sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is the highest award for sport in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia . It was donated in 1959 by the North Rhine-Westphalian state government .

purpose

The plaque is used to recognize outstanding sporting and gymnastics achievements as well as special merits in the at least ten years of honorary posts in sports and gymnastics organizations.

Award criteria

The sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia should be awarded to a maximum of 20 people per year. For the award, people from the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (LSB NRW) can be proposed for its area and by its member organizations for their areas. The district governments can propose people who do not belong to any member organization of the LSB NRW.

The prerequisite is that the nominee has his permanent residence in North Rhine-Westphalia or, if he lives in another federal state, has performed the services to be honored in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, he should be worthy of a state honor according to his general behavior.

Proposals must be submitted to the Ministry of Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport by September 15 each year . A three-person selection committee appointed by the ministry then deliberates on the proposals and submits them to the Prime Minister for a decision, with a recommendation as to which proposals are primarily eligible for the award of the sports badge.

Award

The award is made by the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia or, on behalf of the Minister for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport, and a certificate is issued for the award.

design

The sports badge consists of a circular silver medal with a diameter of 10.5 cm. In the middle it shows the picture of a stadium with six running tracks and two stylized laurel branches. On the back it shows the state coat of arms with the inscription “For outstanding services to sport. The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia ” .
