The Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , abbreviated MKFFI NRW , is one of twelve ministries in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The ministry is based in Düsseldorf. The incumbent minister is Joachim Stamp ( FDP ).

history

The first ministry in North Rhine-Westphalia to carry the tasks of “family” and “youth” in its name was the Ministry for Women, Youth, Family and Health, established in 1998. In 2002 and 2005 there were reallocations: in 2002 the Ministry for Health, Social Affairs, Women and Family and the Ministry for School, Youth and Children, and in 2005 the Ministry for Generations, Family, Women and Integration.

After the state elections in 2010, the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport (MFKJKS) was founded. The new ministry took over the areas of families, children, youth, voluntary services and the state center for political education from the division of the former ministry for generations, families, women and integration. In addition, the MFKJKS took over the field of culture from the Prime Minister's division and sport from the former Ministry of the Interior. For the first time in the history of the North Rhine-Westphalian ministries, the areas of responsibility for culture and sport were merged with family, child and youth policy.

“The Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration (MKFFI), founded in 2017 after the state elections, is the legal successor to the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport (MFKJKS). It takes over the areas of responsibility "Integration of people with a migration background", "Right of integration" and "Dialogue with Islam" from the former Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs (MAIS). The areas of "Foreigners and Asylum Matters" and "Citizenship" are being transferred from the former Ministry of the Interior and Local Affairs (MIK) and the area of "Lifestyle Policy and Same-Sex Lifestyles (Policy for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transsexuals, Transgender and Intersexuals, LGBTI * ) "from the former Ministry of Health, Emancipation, Care and Old Age (MGEPA)."
"The previous responsibilities for the area of" culture "and the state center for political education are transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW). The areas of responsibility "Sport and Sports Facilities" and "Civic Commitment" change to the State Chancellery. "
