Erik Magnussen (born March 31, 1940 in Denmark , † May 2014 in Denmark) was a Danish designer who u. a. became famous for its classic thermos.

Erik Magnussen trained as a ceramist at Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen until 1960 . He then worked at the Danish porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndal (now part of Royal Copenhagen ), where he designed utility porcelain in simple, geometric shapes, including a. the stackable Form 25 Termo service from 1965. Magnussen also designed functional furniture such as the Z-chair folding chair and a series of school furniture. From 1976 Erik Magnussen also worked for Stelton A / S in Copenhagen. There he designed the elegant and timeless Stelton termokande thermos in brightly colored ABS plastic . This jug was originally intended to complete Arne Jacobsen's metal collection Cylinder Line from 1967, it is still in production and is one of the Stelton company's bestsellers. Magnussen's kerosene lamp Skibs Lampe 1001 is also sold by Stelton . It is made of high-gloss polished stainless steel and with its glare screen is reminiscent of the shoemaker's lamp of earlier times. From 1978 Erik Magnussen designed kitchen objects for Georg Jensen , whose silversmiths produced a silver version of the Stelton termokande .

Erik Magnussen always sought perfection down to the smallest detail, at the same time his objects are intended for industrial mass production. His work is a good example of excellent Danish and Scandinavian design. He died in May 2014.
