Fausto Gardini
Fausto Gardini (born March 8, 1930 in Milan , † September 17, 2008 in Lucca ) was an Italian tennis player and multiple participant in the Davis Cup .
Career
Gardini was a member of the Italian Davis Cup team in 1952 , 1953 and 1955 and between 1961 and 1963 . He was able to win 29 of his 38 matches. In his first appearance in the Davis Cup in 1952 in Sydney , Australia , where Italy lost on grass with 0: 5 against the United States , he gave his two single games from just against Vic Seixas and Tony Trabert . In the following year, Italy reached the semi-finals after beating Sweden , Gardini managed an individual victory against Lennart Bergelin . In 1961 Italy reached the final of the Davis Cup after Gardini defeated the reigning French Open champion Sven Davidson in the semifinals . The final against Australia was lost 5-0.
Gardini's most important individual title apart from the Davis Cup was the victory at the open Italian championship in Rome in 1955, in which he was able to defeat his compatriot Giuseppe Merlo in the final.
