Louis Weßels (born August 27, 1998 in Bielefeld ) is a German tennis player .

Career

Louis Weßels started playing tennis when he was five. Since 2012 he has played on the Junior Tour, where he has so far achieved a combined top placement of 17th place in May 2016. He played in all youth Grand Slam tournaments , where he reached the semi-finals in doubles at the Australian Open , the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open , and at least the quarter-finals at the French Open . In the individual, however, he never got beyond the second round.

In the 2nd tennis Bundesliga he plays for his home club, the Bielefelder TTC , where he had a score of 5: 3 in 2016 .

On the professional tour, Weßels only played six matches on the ITF Future Tour until 2016 , none of which he won. Finally he made his debut on the ATP World Tour in Hamburg at the German Tennis Championships , equipped with a wildcard from tournament director Michael Stich . Here he surprised Canadian qualifier Steven Diez in the first round , against whom he had the upper hand in three sets with 5: 7, 6: 2, 6: 1. This made Weßels the youngest player on the 2016 ATP World Tour to win a game. In the next round, however, Martin Kližan , the eventual winner of the tournament, was too strong with his powerful forehand. The game was lost 1: 6, 1: 6. During the rest of the year he played a few futures, where he reached three semifinals. He also won his first future title in doubles. He finished the year in 539th place.

In August 2018, Weßels won his first individual Future title in Essen on Sand.
