The 2014 WTA Championships (also known as the BNP Paribas WTA Finals - Singapore 2014 ) was a women's tennis tournament in Singapore . The hard court tournament took place from October 17 to 26, 2014 in the Singapore Indoor Stadium and, after the four Grand Slam tournaments, was the tournament with the highest prize money in terms of points and prize money in the tournament calendar of the WTA . The tennis championships of the WTA Tour in women singles and doubles were held for the first time in Singapore, previous venues were Doha and Istanbul .

The defending champions were Serena Williams in singles and Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei in doubles , who in 2013 were the first Asians to enter the tournament's list of winners.

Competition mode

In the round of the tournament four players played in two groups, each against each other (round robin) . The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, with the winner of one competing against the second in the other group. The two winners contested the final.
