Zheng Saisai ( 鄭 賽 賽 , Zhèng Sàisài , born February 5, 1994 in Xi'an ) is a Chinese tennis player . Your father is Tibetan .

Career

Zheng, who started tennis at the age of eight, was one of the best of her class as a junior. In 2010 she won the individual competition of the Osaka Mayor's Cup , one of the most important junior tennis tournaments , and won the gold medal in doubles at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore alongside Tang Haochen after beating Jana Čepelová and Chantal Škamlová in the final . In the individual competition she was defeated in the final Darja Gavrilowa and won silver. At the beginning of 2011 she achieved her highest ranking in the junior tennis world rankings with seventh place .

In 2008 Zheng made her debut on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour and celebrated her first professional title in 2009. In 2011 she made her debut in the main draw of a WTA tournament in Guangzhou after she had received a wildcard from the organizers , but was eliminated at the start against Noppawan Lertcheewakarn . In doubles, however, she went straight to the final and won her first WTA title together with Hsieh Su-wei . In 2012 she won an ITF tournament in the $ 50,000 category in Kurume for the first time and then won her first match in the main draw of a WTA tournament in Stanford . After she had originally failed in the qualification, she moved up as a lucky loser in the main round and benefited from the abandonment of her opponent Ayumi Morita in the first round before losing to Sorana Cîrstea in the second round . She then appeared at the US Open for the first time in the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament, in which she was only defeated in the final round.

The following year Zheng reached the final at a tournament of the WTA Challenger Series in Suzhou , but had to admit defeat to Shahar Peer in three sets. Her best result of the season by far was achieved in doubles, where she and Varvara Lepchenko made it to the semifinals at the start of the season at the Australian Open , in which the two were only defeated by Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua . In 2014 she won another ITF title in the $ 50,000 category in Anning , before qualifying for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament in New York for the first time, and after beating Stefanie Vögele immediately in the second Round advanced in which she was defeated by Lucie Šafářová . Then Zheng achieved her first WTA quarter-finals in Hong Kong, which was followed by her first entry into a semifinals in Tianjin the following week , in which she was stopped by the eventual winner Alison Riske . By reaching the quarter-finals in two other WTA Challenger tournaments at the end of the season, she made it into the top 100 of the tennis world rankings. At the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, she lost the team competition finals together with Duan Yingying , Zhang Shuai and Zheng Jie to the team from Taiwan and won silver. In 2015, Zheng kicked off with a semi-final in Shenzhen , before winning two ITF $ 75,000 tournaments in Gifu and Anning in succession . She had her greatest success with the triumph at the WTA Challenger in Dalian , where she won her biggest title to date after beating Julia Glushko in the final . In addition, she and her compatriot Xu Yifan won two more WTA doubles titles in Stanford and Tianjin . In the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year, however, she was eliminated in the first round.

With her, she made it into the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open 2016 for the second time since 2013, before they were beaten by Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká . In individual, she achieved her best results of the season with the semi-finals in Nottingham and the quarter-finals in Stanford , where she lost to Johanna Konta . In addition, she was able to land her first two victories against players from the top 10 of the world rankings against Petra Kvitová in Shenzhen and Angelique Kerber in Doha . In the final of the women's singles at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018, she lost to her compatriot Wang Qiang and won silver.

After a changeable start to the season, Zheng won her third title in a Chinese WTA challenger in Anning in 2019 by beating Zhang Shuai in the final and then made it to the round of 16 in Madrid , where she was defeated by Sloane Stephens . At the French Open , she surprisingly reached her first Grand Slam final in doubles, which she lost to Kristina Mladenovic and Tímea Babos , alongside Duan Yingying . She had previously won her fourth WTA double title with Wiktoryja Asaranka in Acapulco . In New York they both made it to the quarter-finals again, losing to the eventual winners Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens . At the premier tournament in San José , she won her first WTA individual title after three first round defeats on grass; in the final she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
