Daria Gavrilova ( Russian Дарья Алексеевна Гаврилова , German transcription Darja Alexejewna Gavrilova ; born March 5, 1994 in Moscow ) is a Russian- born tennis player who has competed for Australia since 2016.

Career

Gavrilova won the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore as a non-seed . In the final, she defeated Zheng Saisai 2: 6, 6: 2, 6: 0. In the year mentioned, she also won the junior title at the US Open with a 6: 3, 6: 2 final victory over Julija Putinzewa . In 2012, she and Irina Chromatschowa secured the double title of the juniors at the French Open .

Gavrilova mainly plays on the ITF Women's Circuit , where she has already won four singles and two doubles. She had already competed five times in the qualification at Grand Slam tournaments before she made it into the main field for the first time at the Australian Open in 2013 and reached the second round; In 2015 she was eliminated there in round one.

In June 2017 she achieved a new personal record with 21st place in the world rankings , and in August she won her first WTA title in New Haven with a three-set win over Dominika Cibulkova .

In January 2016, she and Nick Kyrgios won the Hopman Cup for the first time . Since the start of the season, she has competed on the WTA Tour under the Australian flag. She had already competed in Grand Slam tournaments for Australia in the preseason. However, she lost her first two games for the Australian Fed Cup team in 2016.
