Burnie has a public and private hospital, university, college, and further education institute.

Surroundings

The landscape of the north-west coast has remained relatively untouched by humans. Temperate rainforests , meandering and raging rivers and a strongly rugged coastline dominate the landscape.

Around Burnie is agriculture operated successfully and in the city, a well-known dairy company has established the regional products offering. Forestry is also very important.

tourism

The town has a museum, an art gallery and a penguin observatory where the birds can be observed. An original village has been rebuilt in Burnie, showing life and work in Tasmania at the beginning of the 19th century with a blacksmith, saddlery, printing trade and grocer. The staff demonstrates this in traditional clothing.

On the outskirts there is a viewing area with picnic areas. There is a paper mill in Burnie where paper is hand-made and artistically designed. In the city, tourists can stay in hotels, apartments or on the campsite.
