Timothy Leo O'Shannessey (born October 14, 1972 in Burnie ) is a retired Australian cyclist .

Athletic career

Tim O'Shannessey was above all a specialist in tracking on the track . In 1990, at the Junior World Championships in Middlesbrough , he was second in the singles and third in the team pursuit . At the UCI Track World Championships in Hamar in 1993 , he was world champion in team pursuit, together with Brett Aitken , Stuart O'Grady and Bill Shearsby . The Australian four-wheeler was able to repeat this success two years later, at the World Track Championships in Bogotá , with O'Shannessey, Bradley McGee , Aitken and O'Grady, after the Australians (O'Shannessey, Rodney McGee , O'Grady, Aitken ) finished third in the World Cup the year before. In the same year, 1994, the Australian team with O'Shannessey, Aitken, Bradley McGee and O'Grady won the team pursuit at the Commonwealth Games ; O'Shannessey also won the bronze medal in the 1000 meter time trial .

In March 1999, Tim O'Shannessey tested positive for doping during a training control and was therefore suspended from the Australian Institute of Sport .

Honors

In 1994 Tim O'Shannessey was named "Tasmanian of the Year".
