Serhiy Matvyeev

Serhij Leonodiwitsch Matwjejew ( Ukrainian Сергій Леонідович Матвєєв , also Sergey Matveev or Serhiy Matvieiev ; born January 29, 1975 in Myroniwka , Kiev Oblast ) is a former Ukrainian cyclist and current sports director .

Athletic career

In 1998 Serhij Matwjejew was together with Oleksandr Symonenko , Oleksandr Fedenko and Ruslan Pidhornyj world champion in the team pursuit .

2001 Matvjejew turned professional. He won a national title twice, in 1999 in road racing and in 2003 in individual time trial . In 2004 and 2005 he won the one-day race Firenze-Pistoia, which was held as a time trial . In the 2006 season he won the Tour de Langkawi time trial .

Three times - 1996 , 2000 and 2004 - Matvjejew started at the Olympic Games, in the individual and team pursuit on the track and in the individual time trial on the road . In 2000 in Sydney he won the silver medal in the team pursuit together with the Ukrainian four-wheeler (Oleksandr Fedenko, Oleksandr Symonenko and Serhij Tschernjawskyj ).

He ended his career at the end of the 2009 season.

Professional

In 2010 Matwjejew was the sports director of the ISD Continental Team .
