Marc James Ryan (born October 14, 1982 in Timaru ) is a former New Zealand track and road cyclist .

Athletic career

On the track, Marc Ryan was very successful in the team pursuit . With the New Zealand team he won his first World Cup in Sydney in 2003 . In 2005 he was successful there again, and he won in the team pursuit the run of the Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester in 2004/05 and the Oceania Championship . A year later he won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games .

In 2009 and 2011, the New Zealand track four repeated his success with Ryan at the Oceania Championships. At the World Railroad Championships in Melbourne in 2012 , he and his teammates took third place in the team pursuit. In 2014 Marc Ryan won bronze in the single and team pursuit at both the World Track Championships and the Commonwealth Games . At the Track World Championships in 2015 , he was only used in the preliminary run, but won the gold medal in the team pursuit with his teammates.

Ryan was also successful at the Olympic Games: in 2008 and 2012 he won bronze in the team pursuit.

On the road, Marc Ryan won a stage in the Tour of Southland in 2005 . A year later he became New Zealand champion in the individual time trial and in the criterion . In 2007 he won a stage each in the Tour of Wellington and the Tour of Southland, in which he was also overall runner-up.

In April 2016, Ryan announced his retirement from active cycling.
