Samuel Ryan "Sam" Bewley (born July 22, 1987 in Rotorua ) is a New Zealand track and road cyclist . On the track he was a specialist in team pursuit .

Athletic career

In 2003, Sam Bewley was New Zealand youth champion in the individual time trial . The following year he won the gold medal in the singles pursuit and silver in the team pursuit on the track at the Oceania Junior Games in Melbourne . In 2005 he became junior world champion in the team pursuit and runner-up in the single pursuit in Vienna . On the road, Bewley won a stage in the Tour of Southland in 2006 . The next year he was successful with his team Trek-Zookeepers Cafe in the team time trial of the Tour of Wellington . In the following years he was mainly active on the track. In 2009 he was two-time Oceania champion on the track, in the team pursuit and in the points race . At the Commonwealth Games 2010 , the New Zealanders won silver with Bewley. In 2011 Bewley was Oceania champion in the team pursuit together with Aaron Gate , Marc Ryan and Jesse Sergent , in the single pursuit he won bronze.

Bewley competed at the Olympic Games twice - in 2008 and 2012 . At both starts he was part of the New Zealand track four, which won the bronze medal in each case. Also in 2012, the New Zealand four-man finished third at the World Railroad Championships . At the road world championships in the same , Bewley belonged to the Orica GreenEdge team , which also took third place in the team time trial.

After 2012, Bewley shifted its focus to the road. With Orica GreenEdge he won the team time trial at the 2015 Giro d'Italia , and in 2017 the team won the Hammer Hong Kong team competition . Between 2013 and 2019 he started on eight Grand Tours .
