Jesse Harold Sergent (born July 8, 1988 in Feilding ) is a former New Zealand track and road cyclist.
Jesse Sergent was junior track cycling world champion in the team pursuit in Vienna in 2005 , together with Sam Bewley , Westley Gough and Darren Shea . At the Oceania Games in Wanganui in the same year , he won four medals, each gold in the junior single pursuit and in the individual time trial on the road, and silver in the track disciplines points trial and scratch . At the junior track cycling world championships in 2006 in Ghent , Belgium , he won silver in the team pursuit and bronze in the individual pursuit.
With the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing was Jesse Sergent together with Sam Bewley , Hayden Roulston and Marc Ryan member of the New Zealand team that won the bronze medal in the team pursuit.
From 2009 Jesse Sergent started increasingly in road races and finished 18th in the individual time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in 2011 . In 2012 and 2013 he started at the Giro d'Italia , and in 2014 at the Vuelta a España .
In 2015 Sergent was hit by an escort vehicle during the Tour of Flanders . After this accident, he had to undergo several operations and it was only three months later that he was able to train again. At the beginning of 2016 he signed a contract with ag2r La Mondiale with the aim of competing in the Tour de France . However, he contested his last race with the Tour de Suisse and announced his immediate retirement from active cycling on July 22, 2016.
