The Zhongxing Provincial Government Building

Zhongxing Xincun ( Chinese  中興 新村 , Pinyin Zhōngxīng Xīncūn , Tongyong Pinyin Jhongsing Sincun , W.-G. Chung-hsing Hsin-ts'un , English Zhongxing New Village ) has been the seat of the administration of the Taiwan Province since 1956 .

The village is located on the northern edge of the urban area of Nantou , the capital of Nantou County of Taiwan Province . It was laid out on an area of around 200 hectares at the foot of the Hu Shan range of hills as the new seat of the provincial government. The planning was based on a British urban planning concept. The buildings are arranged in rows. A special feature are separate drainage systems for rainwater and wastewater. Large park and meadow areas were planned for the landscape planning. The construction phase was completed in 1957.

Until 1956 , Taipei was the capital of Taiwan Province. Since the provincial capital was only moved to Zhongxing after the Chinese Civil War in 1949 by a government which did not consider the People's Republic of China to be lawful, Taipei continues to regard Taipei as the provincial capital.
