Richard Scott

William Richard ("Dick") Scott (born December 18, 1932 ) is an American sociologist. He is a professor emeritus at Stanford University and mainly dealt with organizational sociology . He is considered a pioneer of sociological neo-institutionalism .

Life

Scott graduated from the University of Kansas , where he received his MA. He submitted his dissertation at the University of Chicago .

Scott spent his entire academic life in the Department of Sociology at Stanford University until his retirement. In addition to this activity, he also taught at the Graduate School of Business, School of Education and School of Medicine at Stanford. Scott directed the institute from 1972 to 1989. He co-founded the Stanford Center for Organizations Research, which he directed from its inception in 1988 to 1996. Scott's scientific oeuvre comprises a dozen monographs, and he co-authored just as many books. In addition, Scott wrote well over 100 articles in journals, periodicals and compilations. Scott edited numerous journals, including the Annual Review of Sociology from 1986 to 1991.

Scott worked a. a. with John W. Meyer and Peter M. Blau . He also worked as a political advisor in various committees.

In March 2000 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Copenhagen Business School and in 2001 an honorary doctorate from the Swedish Business School .

Works in German

Empirically, Scott dealt primarily with organizations in the field of education and health. In theory, he was mainly concerned with institutions. Scott's works are classics but, with one exception, have not been translated into German.
