Kurt Lüthi

Kurt Lüthi (born October 31, 1923 in Rohrbach BE ; † June 11, 2010 in Vienna ) was a Swiss Reformed theologian and professor at the University of Vienna .

Life

After studying Protestant theology in Bern and Basel with Karl Barth , Karl Ludwig Schmidt and Oscar Cullmann , among others , Lüthi became pastor of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Bern in 1949, first in Beatenberg and later in Biel . With a dissertation on the New Testament Judas Iscariot , he was in 1955 in Basel to the Dr. theol. PhD. In 1959 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bern. From 1964 until his retirement in 1990 he taught as a professor for systematic theology (Helvetic Confession) at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna. He was a long-time member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church HB in Austria and the General Synod of the Evangelical Church A. and HB

His theology focused on political ethics, feminist theology and the relationship between theology and psychoanalysis . He was also involved in Christian-Jewish dialogue (1967–1988 as a board member in the coordination committee for Christian-Jewish cooperation), in ecumenical dialogue (1965 founding of the "Ecumenical Working Group" with Wilhelm Dantine , Ferdinand Klostermann and Otto Mauer ; 1970 honorary member of the Pro Foundation Oriente ), in the Christian-Marxist dialogue as well as in the conversation between theology and art.
