history
Rohrbach is one of the oldest villages in the canton of Bern. Rohrbach - or Rorpah back then - was first mentioned in a document in 795. At that time, the Kelnhof Rohrbach belonged to the St. Gallen Abbey . In the late Middle Ages the rule belonged to the local barons of Rüti until 1309, whose representative Dietrich von Rüti, who was involved in the regicide of Albrecht I in 1308 , was declared to have lost his offices and fiefs by the Dukes of Austria: the st. Gallic Bailiwick and the Meieramt over the Hof zu Rohrbach and its Trachselwald Castle . The reign of Rohrbach subsequently came to the Barons of Signau.
Baron Ulrich III. von Signau pledged the estate together with his son Matthias for 700 Florin Gulden to Count Hartmann III. von Kyburg and his brothers. When Ulrich III. died after 1362, his son Matthias became a pawnman opposite the Count House Neu-Kyburg. Due to financial difficulties, the counts wanted to sell the Rohrbach pledge, for which Matthias von Signau gave his consent within nine years on December 7, 1370 in Basel, subject to a right of redemption. The sale then took place on February 2, 1371 for the same pledge sum - 700 Florin Gulden - to Matthias von Signau's cousin, Baron Berchtold I from the family of the Barons von Grünenberg . The rule includes the village and the office with people, property, high and low courts, twing and ban , wood and field. Rohrbach proved to be an important link between Madiswil and the small town of Huttwil, which later became Grünberg again for his family . After Berchtold I died soon afterwards, his brother Johann II the Grimme von Grünenberg inherited the Rohrbach pledge. Under his rule, the nine-year redemption right of the barons of Signau lapsed, so that from around 1380 Rohrbach can be regarded as Grünberg property. The high and low courts of Eriswil also belonged to the Rohrbach rule .
After the death of Johann II the Grimmen before February 3, 1384, his son of the same name, Johann III. the Grimme ruled Rohrbach, which remained his property until his death in 1429. About his daughter Magdalena, the village came to his son Hermann von Eptingen was him as an Austrian partisans in the Old Zurich War of Bern but busy. In 1449 the city of Bern gave Rohrbach back to Magdalena von Grünenberg († before November 21, 1468). Their heirs, Hans Rudolf von Luternau and his wife Barbara von Mülinen, sold Rohrbach to Bern in 1504. The place retained special rights such as its own court district and its own mass.
The Kelnhof of the St. Gallen monastery remained in existence all the time. In 1414 Baron Thomas von Falkenstein acquired it together with the rest of the property of the St. Gallen monastery.
