Röthenbach bei Herzogenbuchsee is a former political municipality in the former district of Wangen in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

On January 1, 2009, Röthenbach merged with Heimenhausen and Wanzwil near Herzogenbuchsee to form the new community of Heimenhausen.

geography

Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee lies at 462  m above sea level. M. , two and a half kilometers northwest of Herzogenbuchsee and eleven kilometers east of the city of Solothurn (as the crow flies). The former street line village extends along the Seebach (outflow of the nearby Inkwilersee ) on the flood plain west of the lower Önztal , in Oberaargau .

The area of ​​2.1 km² covers a section of the northern Bernese Mittelland . The area is largely occupied by a gravel plain that is drained from the Seebach to the Aare . In the south this level is limited by the wooded ridge of the Önzberg , on its northeastern foothills with 495  m above sea level. M. the highest point of Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee is reached. With 338 inhabitants (at the end of 2007), Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee was one of the smaller communities in the canton of Bern. 98.8% of the residents are German-speaking, 0.6% French-speaking and 0.3% speak Italian (as of 2000). The population of Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee was 314 inhabitants in 1850 and 374 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century, the population always fluctuated between 290 and 350 people.

The water supply is the responsibility of the municipal association of water supply on the lower Oenz (WVOe). history

The first documentary mention of the place took place in 1224 under the name Rottenbach . Later the names Rothenbach (1252), Rötenbach (1261) and Rotebach (1276) appeared. The place name probably originates from a water body name and the red trout found in it (Rötheln → red brook).

Since the Middle Ages, Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee has been under the rule of the Kyrgyz family Herzogenbuchsee and shared their fate. In 1406 the village came under the rule of Bern and was assigned to the Landvogtei Wangen and in it the court place Herzogenbuchsee. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee belonged to the district of Wangen during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Oberamt Wangen, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Röthenbach near Herzogenbuchsee does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Herzogenbuchsee.
