history

Bronze Age finds indicate settlement on the banks of the Aare and at the brickworks. The remains of a Roman estate can be found at Hoferrain-Birchi, and parts of a Roman rowing ship have been found in the Aare. The local nobility , the Barons von Bechburg , the Counts of Falkenstein and the Lords of Aarwangen owned estates and bailiwicks in the 13th and 14th centuries, which gradually became the property of the St. Urban Monastery . In 1406, the city of Bern took over the Landgraviate of Burgundy from the Counts of Kyburg , with the Regional Court of Murgeten. In 1413, Bern reorganized the court rights with St. Urban. Wynau and Ober-Murganthal were assigned to the lower court of Roggwil, and thus to the office of Wangen . In Helvetic, Wynau came to the Langenthal district in 1798 and to the Aarwangen district in 1803 .
economy
In Wynau there is a river power plant that dams the Aare. It was built in 1894–96 by Siemens & Halske, who brought numerous Italian construction workers to Wynau for this purpose. The Aktiengesellschaft Elektrizitätswerke Wynau was owned by Basler Handelsbank and Deutsche Disconto-Gesellschaft, before it was taken over by Langenthal and other Upper Aargau communities (including Wynau) in 1903. It was only from this point in time that the municipality of Wynau was also supplied with electricity. The power plant was completely renewed in 1992–96.
traffic
The Langenthal - Olten railway line runs along the southern border of the municipality ; there is also a Roggwil-Wynau train station. The community is therefore close to the Swiss railway junction Olten and the Härkingen motorway junction . In addition, Hauptstrasse 1 runs through the village from Bern to Zurich . There is the Wolfwil – Wynau ferry across the Aare .
