Until December 31, 2006, Gutenburg was a municipality in the Aarwangen district of the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
On June 7, 2006, the voters of Gutenburg decided to unite their community with Madiswil . The merger to form the new municipality of Madiswil was completed on January 1, 2007.
geography
Gutenburg is located in Oberaargau in the Swiss plateau . The former municipal area bordered the municipalities of Lotzwil and Madiswil .
With 60 hectares, Gutenburg was the smallest municipality in the canton. A civic or parish does not exist.
The scattered settlement includes several houses around a former tower on the Turmhubel .
history
First mentioned in 1277 as Guotenberg . In 1303 it was besieged by Solothurn, but not destroyed. After a long back and forth it was sold to Burgdorf in 1431. In 1897 a merger with Lotzwil was rejected.
The communities of Gutenburg and Madiswil merged at the beginning of 2007 to form the new community of Madiswil. The community assemblies of both communities on June 7, 2006 approved the merger. The Government of the Canton of Bern on 15 June 2006 the Grand Council requested the Canton of Bern to approve the merger and the merger agreements.
