Reisiswil is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
geography
Geographically, Reisiswil is part of the Oberaargau . The community is located west of Melchnau on the eastern slope of a mostly forested range of hills, which extends from Langenthal to Huttwil and culminates on the 780 m high Hohwacht . Neighboring communities are Melchnau, Madiswil and Gondiswil .
politics
Legislative is the municipal assembly, which is formed by all residents who are entitled to vote. The executive is the municipal council, which is elected by the residents who are entitled to vote. The mayor is Erika Meyer-Lanz (as of 2009).
economy
Reisiswil is still strongly influenced by agriculture. There are also smaller craft and service companies.
tourism
On the Hohwacht there is a popular observation tower and a restaurant, which have led to modest weekend tourism.
traffic
The Dorfstrasse is a side branch of the main road from Melchnau to Gondiswil . Since it is paved but has very little traffic, it is very popular with sporty cyclists.
history
The first documentary mention of Reisiswil dates from 1194 as Richolsiswillare . Today's Reisiswil community was created in 1815 when it was separated from the Melchnau community.
Art, culture, education
Male choir and country women ensure an active village life. The kindergarten and primary school are run together with Gondisiwil. The kindergarten is in Reisiswil, the primary school in Gondiswil. A school bus runs between the villages.
At the highest point of the village, the 780 m high Hohwacht , there was a signal station until 1798. Today a 20 m high observation tower allows a view from the Churfirsten over the Pilatus to the Mont Blanc in clear weather .
