geography

Schwerz is about 15 kilometers northeast of Halle (Saale) .

history

Schwerz was first mentioned in a document in 1205, the places Dammendorf and Gödewitz appear as Tammendorf and Götewitz for the first time in 1371 in Magdeburg loan books . The origins of the places Schwerz and Dammendorf can be found in Slavic castles from around the 8th to 10th centuries. The village of Gödewitz was united with Dammendorf in 1506. Schwerz and Dammendorf were under aristocratic rule and belonged to the hall circle of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . With its annexation to Prussia, from 1680 they belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg . Both places were surrounded on three sides by the Electorate of Saxony and the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 . In the north was the Zörbig office, the Bitterfeld office in the east and the Delitzsch office in the south . To 1740-1750 the settlement took place a Ausspanne to the existing customs station on the trade route in the Electorate of Saxony Zörbig . It was called "The (Prussian) Crown". In the following years the settlement was named "Kneipe".

With the Treaty of Tilsit , Schwerz and Dammendorf with pub were incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. They belonged to the canton of Oppin . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Schwerz and Dammendorf were attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Saalkreis.

On July 1, 1950, Dammendorf was incorporated with a pub to Schwerz, now assigned to the hall circle , which on July 25, 1952 came to the reduced hall circle in the Halle district .

Until it was incorporated into Landsberg on January 1, 2010, Schwerz was an independent municipality in the Eastern Saalkreis administrative community with the associated districts of Kneipe and Dammendorf. The last mayor of Schwerz was Beate Bunge. She now takes on the role of mayor.
