The central German transport association ( MDV ) is a transport association of public transport ( PT ) in the Leipzig-Halle . The company is based in Halle (Saale) , but the office is in Leipzig .

The Mitteldeutsche Verkehrsverbund is a so-called mixed network. The shareholders are the public transport authorities (e.g. the rural districts ) to 51% and the transport companies to 49%. The aim of the MDV is to make it easier for everyone in Central Germany to travel by local trains, S-Bahn, trams and buses . The MDV already offers a standardized ticket system and is working on a coordinated timetable.

history

The association was introduced with a uniform tariff system on August 1, 2001 in four districts and the two independent cities and has since been expanded several times: On August 1, 2004, among other things, the last unconnected Saxon districts were added and on August 1, 2005 with Altenburg Area of the former GDR district of Leipzig , which is still strongly oriented towards Leipzig, completed in the MDV. Negotiations were also started shortly after the introduction of the Bitterfeld district , but these have not yet been successful. In contrast to the first accession, the state of Saxony-Anhalt now no longer wants to reimburse through tariff losses .

Transport authority

The MDV includes (year of membership in brackets):

MDV expansion
in Saxony the former administrative district of Leipzig
in Saxony-Anhalt parts of the former administrative district of Halle
in Thuringia the area formerly belonging to the Leipzig district

From 2004 the former district of Döbeln was also part of the Central German Transport Association. As a result of the Saxon district reform of 2008 , however, this became part of the Central Saxony district . Since August 2011, the entire central Saxony district, including the former Döbeln district, has been part of the central Saxony transport association . There are still tariff transitional regulations only for journeys between the former Döbeln district and the Central German Transport Association.

In February 2018 it was announced that the network area would be expanded to include the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Wittenberg and the city of Dessau-Roßlau . In December 2019, train traffic in this area was first integrated into the MDV, and full integration with bus and tram traffic is the goal. Also in December 2019, the Könnern train station in the Salzland district became part of the network.

Customer timetables

The following timetable booklets are published in the MDV:

  • For the city of Halle (Saale) there are only individual route leaflets, where the timetable booklet was last published for the timetable change on March 11, 2013. Since the timetable change on November 29, 2013, there has been no timetable booklet the decreased demand.

  • Northern Saxony district, Delitzsch region
  • Since the timetable change on December 14, 2014, there are also only individual route folders for city traffic in Leipzig and the surrounding area. The timetable booklet was published there for the last time when the timetable changed on December 15, 2013. PlusBus

At the start of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland on December 15, 2013, selected bus lines in the MDV area in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were upgraded to PlusBus lines. Planned as an integrated network of the MDV , the communities that are off the S-Bahn routes should also benefit from the new offer. The bus routes run every day, regardless of school days, holidays and weekends, at an easily noticeable rhythm. On school days and holidays, a continuous hourly service is offered from morning to evening, on Saturdays there is a two-hour service, on Sundays and public holidays there is approximately two-hour service, but at least four journeys in each direction.
