Location of the district of Leipziger Land in Saxony | |
The district of Leipziger Land was a district in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony , it existed from 1994 until the district reform in Saxony in 2008 . It bordered in the north on the Delitzsch district and the city of Leipzig , in the east on the Muldental district , in the southeast on the Mittweida district , in the south on the Thuringian district of Altenburger Land and in the west on the Burgenlandkreis and Saalekreis districts belonging to Saxony-Anhalt . The area of the district coincided with the so-called " Leipziger Neuseenland ".
geography
The area of the district was in the Leipzig lowland bay . In terms of nature, the area is also known as the Leipziger Land. The Weisse Elster and the Pleiße flowed through the circle . The recreational facilities of the recultivated lignite opencast mines in the southern Leipzig area were marketed under the name Leipziger Neuseenland .
history
The district was created in 1994 by amalgamating the Leipzig-Land , Borna and Geithain districts .
On January 1, 1999, several communities of the former district of Leipzig were incorporated into the city of Leipzig , at the same time the cities of Schkeuditz and Taucha came to the district of Delitzsch and the community of Borsdorf together with the incorporated Panitzsch in the Muldental district . The seat of the district administration, which until then was in the city of Leipzig - not in the district of Leipziger Land - was relocated to Borna. Nevertheless, the city of Leipzig and the district of Leipziger Land continue to use the same distinguishing sign L for vehicles registered in their area. The MKL and BNA proposals for the largest cities of Markkleeberg and Borna met with little approval from the other, Geithain's rejection would be certain anyway. NSL for New Lakeland was also proposed and rejected.
On January 1, 2000, the district also lost most of the municipality of Bienitz , which gave sub-areas to Schkeuditz (Delitzsch district) and Leipzig.
In the Stauffenbergstrasse in Borna, the former barracks was converted into a district office.
On August 1, 2008, the district of Leipziger Land formed the newly founded district of Leipzig together with the former Muldental district .
cities and communes
In 2008, Markkleeberg and Zwenkau reported rising population numbers, contrary to the trend in Saxony.
