Großpösna is a municipality in the district of Leipzig , Free State of Saxony .
Geography and traffic
The community is located in the Leipzig lowland bay on the edge of the Leipziger Neuseenland . The Störmthaler See is located in the municipality. The city is located 13 km southeast of the center of Leipzig and 15 km west of Grimma . The S 38 state road from Leipzig to Grimma and the A 38 lead through Großpösna . The A 14 is also only 5 km away. Großpösna is part of the Central German Transport Association . There are regular bus connections to Leipzig, Borna , Grimma and Naunhof , as well as an hourly regional train line on the Leipzig – Geithain railway line , which is served by DB Regio Südost .
Local division
The community of Großpösna is divided into the districts of Großpösna, Seifertshain , Güldengossa , Störmthal and Dreiskau-Muckern . Großpösna also includes the corridors of Rödgen and Magdeborn, which were devastated by the Espenhain opencast mine .
history
Major fighting took place in the area of the community during the Battle of Leipzig . Großpösna was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office of Leipzig until 1856 . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Leipzig I and from 1875 to the administrative authority of Leipzig . In 1952 the place came to the district of Leipzig-Land in the district of Leipzig , which in 1994 to the district of Leipziger Land and in 2008 to the district of Leipzig .
Seifertshain has been part of Großpösna since 1974. On January 1, 1996, the municipality of Störmthal was incorporated with its district Güldengossa, exactly one year later Dreiskau-Muckern followed.

Großpösna was a small rural community until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1925 more than 1,000 inhabitants were counted for the first time. Until the outbreak of the Second World War , the population more than doubled to around 2,500. After the Second World War, the number of inhabitants increased further to over 3,000. During the GDR era , the population remained almost constant. Due to incorporation in the 1990s, the population rose to over 5,000 by the year 2000.

- Michael Ranft (1700–1774), Protestant clergyman, vampirism researcher of the Enlightenment, historian and writer, born in the Güldengossa district
- Friedrich Naumann (1860–1919), Protestant theologian and liberal politician, born in the Störmthal district

The family company Julius Blüthner Pianofortefabrik GmbH , which specializes in piano and grand piano construction , is based in Großpösna in the Störmthal industrial park.
