About this picture

The district of Döbeln was a district in the middle of the Free State of Saxony from 1990 to 2008 , its area today belongs to the district of central Saxony . The seat of the district administration was Döbeln.

geography

Neighboring districts were most recently the Torgau-Oschatz district in the north, the Riesa-Großenhain and Meißen districts in the east, the Mittweida district in the south and the Muldental district in the west .

history

As a geographical unit already existed in the Kingdom of Saxony the Amtshauptmannschaft chub and later in the GDR district Döbeln in the district of Leipzig .

As part of the Saxon district reform in 2008 , the district merged with the chub counties Freiberg and Mittweida to mittelsachsen . Until then, the district of Döbeln was the only one in Saxony whose district boundaries had hardly changed since 1952 through incorporation in 1993.

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

The most important employers were the cosmetics company Florena ( Beiersdorf AG ), traditionally based in Waldheim and Döbeln , as well as newly established manufacturing companies (for example the automotive supplier Autoliv and the letterbox manufacturer Renz ).

The advertised commercial areas (commercial areas) were used differently in the various cities of the district. In the district town of Döbeln, thanks to large numbers of settlements, only remaining areas were recently available, while other areas were largely undeveloped.

Transport links

Road traffic

The district of Döbeln was conveniently located on the federal motorway 14 (junctions Döbeln-Nord, Döbeln-Ost and Leisnig) and on the federal highways 169 and 175 .

Rail transport

There was also a railway junction in Döbeln. The district was developed centrally with the Riesa – Chemnitz and Borsdorf – Coswig routes, while the Roßwein – Niederwiesa , Waldheim – Kriebethal and Waldheim – Rochlitz routes were of subordinate importance. In addition, parts of the district were opened up by narrow-gauge railways, these were the Nebitzschen – Kroptewitz , Oschatz – Mügeln – Döbeln and Wilsdruff – Gärtitz lines , but the sections of the line that touched the district were closed in the 1960s and 70s.
