history
The Reichenbach district was created on July 25, 1952 as part of the dissolution of the states and the formation of 14 districts of the GDR. As a completely new establishment, it had no administrative unit as a model. The new district was formed from the communities of the previously existing districts of Auerbach , Plauen-Land and Zwickau-Land , which roughly corresponded to the previous administrative authorities with the same name. The district was assigned to the Karl-Marx-Stadt district . District town became Reichenbach / Vogtl.
The following 32 municipalities formed the district:
- from the Auerbach district (7):
- Irfersgrün, Lengenfeld , Pechtelsgrün, Schönbrunn, Waldkirchen, Weißensand and Wolfspfütz.
- from the Plauen district (22):
- Brockau, Brunn, Buchwald, Coschütz, Foschenroda, Friesen, Hauptmannsgrün, Kleingera, Lambzig, Lauschgrün, Limbach, Losa, Mylau , Netzschkau , Oberheinsdorf, Obermylau, Reichenbach / Vogtl. , Reimersgrün, Rotschau, Schneidbach, Scholas and Unterheinsdorf.
- from the Zwickau district (3):
- Neumark, Reuth and Schönbach.
As a result of municipal area changes and reclassifications across district boundaries, the number of municipalities shrank from initially 32 to 27 on the day of reunification and then further to 13 until its dissolution.
