The Oelsnitz district was a district in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1995 it existed as the district of Oelsnitz in the Free State of Saxony . His area is now in the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony. The seat of the district administration was in Oelsnitz .

The district of Oelsnitz was located in the Vogtland south of Plauen on the border with Bavaria and Czechoslovakia . The district area was traversed by the White Elster .

Neighboring areas

The district of Oelsnitz bordered in a clockwise direction in the west, beginning with the (rural) districts of Rehau (until 1972), Hof , Plauen-Land , the urban district of Plauen , Auerbach and Klingenthal . In the south it bordered on Czechoslovakia .

history

1874 was in the Kingdom of Saxony the Amtshauptmannschaft Oelsnitz been established that in 1939 the district Oelsnitz has been renamed. The district of Oelsnitz belonged to the state of Saxony after 1945 and thus to the GDR since 1949.

On July 25, 1952, there was a comprehensive administrative reform in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states lost their importance and new districts were founded. Part of the district of Oelsnitz (8 municipalities) was given to the new district of Klingenthal , while the new district of Oelsnitz was created from the remaining part of the district . Both districts were assigned to the newly formed Karl-Marx-Stadt district . The district seat was in the city of Oelsnitz .

The following 57 communities now formed the new Oelsnitz district, which existed until 1994: Adorf, Altmannsgrün, Arnoldsgrün, Bad Elster, Bergen, Blosenberg, Bobenneukirchen, Bösenbrunn, Brambach, Radiumbad, Burkhardtsgrün, Dröda, Droßdorf, Ebersbach, Ebmath, Eichigt, Engelhardtsgrün , Gassenreuth, Gettengrün, Hartmannsgrün, Heinersgrün , Hermsgrün, Hohendorf, Hundsgrün, Landwüst , Leubetha, Lottengrün, Magwitz, Marieney, Mühlhausen, Oberbrambach, Oberhermsgrün, Obermarxgrün, Oberwürschnitz, Oelsnitz, Ottengrün, Planschwitz, Posseck, Rohroldsreuth , Raunbach, Raunbach , Saalig, Sachsgrün, Schloditz, Schönberg, Schönbrunn, Sohl, Taltitz, Tiefenbrunn, Tirpersdorf, Tirschendorf, Triebel, Unterwürschnitz, Wiedersberg, Wohlbach, Zaulsdorf and Zettlarsgrün.

Landwüst moved to the Klingenthal district on December 4, 1952 ; Ramoldsreuth (1968) and Heinersgrün (1994) moved to the Plauen district .

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Oelsnitz district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was awarded to the re-established state of Saxony in October 1990 . During the first Saxon district reform , it was absorbed into the new Vogtland district on January 1, 1996.

The district was connected to the GDR motorway network through the Plauen – Karl-Marx-Stadt motorway. The F 92 from Gera via Plauen and Oelsnitz to Bad Brambach and the F 283 from Adorf via Klingenthal to Aue also served national road traffic .

The district area was opened up by the Plauen – Oelsnitz – Adorf – Bad Brambach and Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf railway lines.

License Plate

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinguishing signs starting with the pair of letters TP from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was XV 30-01 to XV 65-00 .

At the beginning of 1991, the districts of Oelsnitz and Klingenthal received the distinctive sign OVL , which stands for Obervogtland . The district of Oelsnitz received the combinations with two letters and three digits. The OVL was issued until March 31, 1996. It has been available in the Vogtland district since November 9, 2012 .
