Upper Vogtland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The two districts of Klingenthal and Oelsnitz were designated with the term Obervogtland shortly after the fall of the Wall .

Since the letter combination OVL was uniformly defined for these two districts as a distinguishing sign for the license plates of the motor vehicles , the term Obervogtland became known nationwide.

The entire Vogtland was originally to be divided into the new districts of Elstertalkreis and Göltzschtalkreis on August 1, 1994 . Since the population was not inclined to these wishes of the legislature, a joint Vogtlandkreis was formed on January 1, 1996, albeit belatedly. Plauen , the district town of the new district, was incorporated into it on August 1, 2008.

Upper Vogtland

Shortly after the formation of the new Vogtlandkreis, the award of the OVL distinction was stopped. The term Obervogtland has since been pushed back very strongly by the term Vogtland . Since November 9, 2012, the distinctive sign OVL has been reassigned - this time on request in the entire Vogtland district.

In contrast, the term Oberes Vogtland, which is still used more frequently, includes the area of the former district of Klingenthal and the southeast of the former district of Oelsnitz (see adjacent drawing).
