history
On July 25, 1952, there was a comprehensive administrative reform in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states lost their importance and districts were formed. The new district of Klingenthal with its seat in Klingenthal was formed from parts of the former districts of Auerbach and Oelsnitz . The district was assigned to the Karl-Marx-Stadt district .
The following municipalities formed the new district:
- from the Auerbach district the 8 communities:
- Hammerbrücke , Klingenthal , Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz , Mühlleithen , Muldenberg , Oberzwota , Tannenbergsthal and Zwota
- from the district of Oelsnitz the 8 communities:
- Breitenfeld , Erlbach , Gunzen , Markneukirchen , Schilbach , Schöneck / Vogtl. , Wernitzgrün and Wohlhausen .
The district experienced only two changes in the territorial structure until the fall of the Wall :
- April 1st 1974 - incorporation of the municipality of Oberzwota into Zwota
- on December 4, 1952 - the Landwüst community was reclassified from the Oelsnitz district.
Up until the dissolution of the district on July 31, 1994 there were still the following changes to the municipality:
- April 1, 1992 - Mühlleithen is incorporated into the city of Klingenthal
- January 1, 1994 - Wohlhausen is incorporated into the town of Markneukirchen
- March 1, 1994 - Breitenfeld is incorporated into the town of Markneukirchen .
On May 17, 1990, as part of the reunification of the two German states, the district was renamed "Landkreis Klingenthal" and in October 1990 it was awarded to the re-established State of Saxony .
During the first Saxon district reform after the fall of the Wall, it was absorbed into the new Vogtland district on January 1, 1996.
