geography

Breitenfeld lies at an altitude of 580 m and 630 m in the uppermost valley section of the Hauleithen. In the south and south-west, the development of the place merges directly into that of the Bernitzgrün district . Neighboring towns are the town of Markneukirchen in the south, Siebenbrunn in the south-west , Wohlhausen in the south-east and Wohlbach and Gunzen in the north . Breitenfeld is located in the south of the Saxon part of the historical Vogtland or Upper Vogtland in the Ore Mountains / Vogtland Nature Park .

history

The Waldhufendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1378 as Breytenuelt because of its extensive arable land. The Erlbach manor exercised the manorial rights until 1542 . It can be proven that Breitenfeld had its own manor rule since 1606. The manor was located in the upper part of the village as a large four-sided courtyard, of which the manor house and some outbuildings are still preserved today. The Bernitzgrün, which was at times desolate, also belonged to the Breitenfeld manor. Breitenfeld belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg until 1856 , to the Markneukirchen court office after 1856 and to the Oelsnitz administration from 1875 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Breitenfeld and its Bernitzgrün district became part of the Klingenthal district in the Chemnitz district in July 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Klingenthal in 1990 and became part of the Vogtland district in 1996.

With the incorporation of the municipality of Breitenfeld into the city of Markneukirchen, the place became a district of Markneukirchen on March 1, 1994.
