history

The origin of today's part of the municipality "Kegel" is a single property mentioned around 1791 between Erlbach in the west and the Kegelberg in the east. Later it was considered a group of houses in the Erlbacher Flur and in 1875 as a district of Erlbach.

As part of the municipality of Erlbach, Kegel belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg until 1856 , to the Markneukirchen court office after 1856 and to the Oelsnitz administration from 1875 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Kegel became part of Erlbach in 1952 and became part of the Klingenthal district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Klingenthal and became part of the Vogtland district in 1996.

With the incorporation of the Erlbach community into the town of Markneukirchen, Kegel became part of the community of Markneukirchen on January 1, 2014. The Erlbach winter sports area is located on the Kegelberg.
