Bernitzgrün is a part of the municipality of Breitenfeld in the town of Markneukirchen in the Vogtlandkreis (Free State of Saxony ). He came to the town of Markneukirchen with the municipality of Breitenfeld on March 1, 1994.

Bernitzgrün is located in the south of the Saxon part of the historical Vogtland or Upper Vogtland . It belongs to the Erzgebirge / Vogtland Nature Park . In the north and northeast, the development of the place merges directly into that of the main town of Breitenfeld.

Bernitzgrün was mentioned in 1378 under the name "Bernhartesgrün". The scattered settlement in the southern Breitenfelder Flur is mentioned in 1466 as a desert . In 1499 the noble Tosse family and the farmers of Wohlhausen used the desert as pastureland. Around 1542, the Bernitzgrün desert was partially rebuilt. In 1557 the place counted "two possessed men". A short time later, Bernitzgrün presumably came into permanent possession of the Breitenfeld manor , which at that time belonged to the Tosse family (also known as "von Thoss"). The large sheep house of the manor was built in the upper Bernitzgrün. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the place was repopulated. Bernitzgrün belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Voigtsberg until 1856 , to the Markneukirchen court office after 1856 and to the Oelsnitz administration from 1875 .

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Bernitzgrün came as a district of Breitenfeld in July 1952 to the Klingenthal district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Klingenthal in 1990 and became part of the Vogtlandkreis in 1996.

With the incorporation of the municipality of Breitenfeld into the town of Markneukirchen, Bernitzgrün became a part of the municipality of Markneukirchen on March 1, 1994.
