Musima ( Musi kinstrumentenbau Ma rkneukirchen) is a brand name for musical instruments from the German Democratic Republic . The brand name is an abbreviation of the manufacturing company, the former VEB Musima Markneukirchen (1952–1990) in Vogtland . After the reunification , the VEB Musima was continued by Musima GmbH until 2004.

history

Until the mid-1990s, Musima GmbH produced classical and acoustic guitars (initially also electric guitars and electric basses), violins , cellos , double basses , banjos , zithers and other string and plucked instruments. Among other things, higher quality guitars were made for Lakewood Guitars . These guitars were labeled with an L. The company consisted of the main building on Pestalozzistraße in Markneukirchen and had many branch offices in neighboring towns.

In the 1990s, making musical instruments became too expensive in competition with the world market and under socialist production conditions. During the GDR era, up to 1260 employees worked in the VEB. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the workforce was reduced to 30. However, industrial machine production was no longer lucrative, and Musima eventually had to file for bankruptcy. Many smaller companies, however, continue the tradition of making musical instruments in Markneukirchen.

In December 2005, an employee of the Markneukirchen Musical Instrument Museum announced : “The brand is still sold today by Adler-Heinrich-Recorder in Markneukirchen. However, they sell Spanish guitars under this name and may want to resume production in Markneukirchen. "

The buildings were bought by the city of Markneukirchen in 2009 for the purpose of demolition, which has not yet taken place (as of 2020).
