Down by the Jetty is the first music album by the British pub rock band Dr. Feel good . The rhythm and blues album, which was recorded with little studio effort and initially only available in mono , contains one of the group's most famous pieces, the single Roxette .

background

Established in 1971, Dr. Feelgood first through the pubs in England and thus built up a reputation. After a while they became the most popular pub band in Great Britain and signed a contract with the United Artists music label in 1973 .

With the exception of the live version of a medley from the classics Bonie Moronie and Tequila , all tracks for the album were recorded in one run in September 1974. At the request of the band's guitarist, Wilko Johnson , no additional audio tracks ( overdubs ) were used after recording , and the album was released in mono . In addition to the vast number of original compositions from the pen of Johnson there are also cover versions of John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom , Mickey Jupp's Check Book , and a medley from the rock 'n' roll -Hit Bonie Moronie by Larry Williams and the surf - Instrumental Tequila (Originally by The Champs ) on the album. The song Oyeh! comes from Mick Green, the original guitarist of the band, who had already quit.

Down by the Jetty was an important album despite its limited commercial success, as it had an impact on punk and new wave music emerging in the mid-1970s . It was also the start of the career of studio producer Vic Maile, who would later produce the album Ace of Spades by the English hard rock band Motörhead , among other things .

In 2006, EMI released a "Collector's Edition" of Down by The Jetty , whose two CDs contained, in addition to previously unreleased studio and live titles, the thirteen songs from the original 1975 album, each in mono and stereo . There are also a total of eleven bonus tracks on the album, including Bobby Troup's Route 66 and other cover versions by Solomon Burke , the songwriter duo Leiber / Stoller and Willie Dixon . In Will Birch's liner notes , the influence of Dr. Feelgoods on punk bands such as The Jam mentioned.
