history

On July 25, 1952, there was a comprehensive administrative reform in the GDR, during which, among other things, the states lost their importance and "districts" were formed. The Freiberg district was redefined territorially from parts of the former districts of Freiberg, Meißen and a municipality from the Dresden-Land district. The district was assigned to the Karl-Marx-Stadt district, the district seat was Freiberg .

The following 34 municipalities formed the new Freiberg district:

  • 7 municipalities from the district of Meissen:
Bieberstein, Dittmannsdorf, Hirschfeld, Neukirchen, Obergruna, Reinsberg and Siebenlehn.
  • 26 communities from the "Altkreis" Freiberg:
Conradsdorf, Freiberg, Großschirma, Großvoigtsberg, Halsbach, Halsbrücke, Hetzdorf b. Freiberg, Hilbersdorf b. Freiberg, Hohentanne, Kleinschirma, Kleinvoigtsberg, Kleinwaltersdorf, Krummenhennersdorf, Langhennersdorf, Loßnitz, Lößnitz b. Freiberg, Naundorf b. Freiberg, Niederbobritzsch, Niederschöna, Oberbobritzsch, Oberschöna, Reichenbach b. Siebenlehn, Seifersdorf b. Freiberg, Sohra, Weißenborn and Zug.
  • and the municipality of Mohorn from the Dresden district.

The community of Bräunsdorf moved from the district of Hainichen to the district of Freiberg on December 4, 1952, and on the same day the community of Mohorn was spun off into the district of Freital.

Due to changes in the municipal area and reclassifications, the number of municipalities fell steadily:

  • January 1, 1957 Incorporation of Loßnitz and Lößnitz b. Freiberg to the city of Freiberg
  • April 1, 1974 Incorporation of Sohra into Oberbobritzsch
  • January 1, 1979 Halsbach is incorporated into the city of Freiberg
  • January 1, 1994 Integration of Hohentanne into large company
  • January 1, 1994 Incorporation of the small company in Oberschöna
  • 1st January 1994 incorporation of Obergruna into the city of Siebenlehn
  • January 1, 1994 incorporation of Berthelsdorf / Erzgeb. in Weißenborn / Erzgeb.
  • March 1, 1994 incorporation of Kleinwaltersdorf and Zug into the city of Freiberg
  • March 1, 1994 Integration of Großvoigtsberg and Kleinvoigtsberg into Großschirma
  • March 1, 1994 Incorporation of Conradsdorf and Krummenhennersdorf in Halsbrücke
  • March 1st, 1994 incorporation of Hetzdorf in Niederschöna
  • March 1, 1994 incorporation of Seifersdorf in Reichenbach b. Siebenlehn
  • March 1, 1994 Integration of Bieberstein, Dittmannsdorf, Hirschfeld and Neukirchen in Reinsberg
  • March 1, 1994 Merger of Niederbobritzsch, Oberbobritzsch and Naundorf to form Bobritzsch
  • March 1, 1994 Merger of Bräunsdorf and Langhennersdorf to become Bräunsdorf-Langhennersdorf

On May 17, 1990 the district was renamed the Freiberg district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was awarded to the re-established state of Saxony in October 1990 . During the first Saxon district reform , it went on August 1, 1994 in the new Freiberg district .
