history

The circle Marienberg walked out of the existing since 1878 Amtshauptmannschaft Marienberg out that from 1939 as a result rich unified control district was called Marie Berg. With the district reform of the GDR , which came into force on July 25, 1952, the northern part of the Marienberg district was added to the newly formed Zschopau district. After the end of the war, the district structure was adopted. In 1952, the five existing states in the GDR were dissolved by law and divided into 14 districts. The territorially subordinate districts were also downsized, some were newly created, others dissolved. On July 25th, the Marienberg district gave 12 of its 40 parishes to the newly created Zschopau district. To the 29 remaining communities in the district, Sprung, Blumenau, Forchheim, Großrückerswalde, Hallbach, Haselbach, Kühnhaide, Lauta, Lauterbach, Lengefeld, Lippersdorf, Marienberg, Mauersberg, Neuhausen, Niederlauterstein, Niedersaida, Niederschmiedeberg, Pfaffroda, Pobershau, Pockau, Reifland, , Rittersberg, Rothenthal, Rübenau, Seiffen, Sorgau, Wernsdorf and Wünschendorf the following 8 communities came from the old Freiberg district: Deutscheinsiedel, Deutschneudorf, Dittmannsdorf, Dörnthal, Heidersdorf, Olbernhau, statutes and Zöblitz.

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Marienberg district. It existed until the Saxon district reform in 1994. With effect from August 1, 1994, the district without Neuhausen became part of the newly formed Middle Ore Mountains District . The city of Marienberg kept the seat of the district office .

As a result of changes in municipal area and reclassifications into neighboring districts, the number of municipalities fell from an initial 37 to 21 between 1952 and its dissolution in 1994.
