Local history

In a document from 1299 a manor of a Wernerus de Wrcheim is mentioned, in 1428 the place name Vorcheym is written . In 1558 the mansion of the "lower knight manor" (castle) with a Renaissance portal was built. The lords of Berbisdorf settled in Forchheim in 1559. In 1576 the village was divided (Berbisdorfer inheritance) between the brothers Christoph and Haubold, the border was formed by the Dorfbach. In 1818 Niederforchheim and Oberforchheim were auctioned off. From July 1819, under Gustav Heinrich Freiherr von Biedermann , the Niederforchheim manor was the seat of the administrative authority of the third district of the Ore Mountains. In 1844 the houses of Neusorge and Drachenwald in the southeast of Forchheim were assigned. A new school building for the whole town was built in 1889. Electric street lighting was put into operation as early as 1913. The manor districts were assigned to the community in 1924. In 1925 the Zoblitz Bridge was built, which has connected Neusorge and Hutha ever since. In the years 1929 to 1933 the construction of the Saidenbachtalsperre took place, for which some buildings in the catchment area had to be demolished. The Forchheim pre-dam was built between 1972 and 1976.

On March 1, 1994 Forchheim was incorporated into Pockau.
