The VEB Robotron-Meßelektronik "Otto Schön" Dresden was a state-owned company (VEB) in the Robotron combine , which was subordinate to the Ministry of Electrical Engineering and Electronics . Besides computers , measuring devices were the most important products. The company was named after the politician Otto Schön .

Company history

The origins of the company go back to the founding of Radio H. Mende & Co. by Otto Hermann Mende in 1923. They mainly produced radios . In 1948 the company was nationalized and measuring devices were new to the range. In cooperation with the TH / TU Dresden , the D1 was developed between 1950 and 1965 ; it was the first completely self-developed computer in the GDR . In 1969 there was a major upheaval in the company's history; the name was changed to VEB RFT Messelektronik Dresden and VEB Vakutronik Dresden and VEB vibration technology and acoustics Dresden were incorporated. The radio production was completely stopped. Ten years later, in 1979, RFT Messelektronik Dresden was incorporated into the Robotron combine (spelling: robotron ) and received its final name. As a result of the social upheaval in the GDR , the company, like many other state-owned companies, was closed in 1990.
