Z9001-OS is an operating system released in 1984 for the small computers Z9001 or KC 85/1 and KC 87 .
development
When development of the Z9001 began in October 1983, an operating system was required. It is based on the CP / M-80 Vers. 2.2 from Digital Research . The finished product, Z9001-OS , was only partially CP / M compatible, as some adjustments were made. It fit on a 4 KB ROM .
Special features
The integration of new routines for the character-oriented logical I / O channels was a special feature that found its model in the CP / M operating system . Up to 4 physical printer drivers could be managed.
A bug prevented the display of the cursor on B / W TV sets if the computer is equipped with a color card. When the command POKE -4152,16 was entered in HC-BASIC , it became visible again.
service
The OS always reports after switching on the computer. Here you can enter commands directly and start other programs. Loading and saving was possible using a cassette, floppy disk and module.
Versions
A new version always appeared analogous to a new model. A total of three versions were released:
- OS 1.1 (Z9001), 09/1984: original version
- OS 1.2 (KC 85/1), 03/1985: Differences in the ASGN command, the printer shutdown, protection byte for the cassette interface is in a different place in the FCB , the BAT driver has no function, no signal tone for error messages
- OS 1.3 (KC 87), 04/1987: the only difference to the previous version is the version identifier and the key assignment
With the end of production of the KC 87 in March 1989, further development was discontinued.
Programs
A full-fledged CP / M called SCP was available as an alternative operating system , with HC-BASIC the dominant BASIC interpreter within the GDR. Of course there were also word processors, system programs, games, etc.
