The SebaKMT Group is the sales organization of Seba Dynatronic , Hagenuk KMT , HDW Electronics and other companies whose production focuses on cable measurement technology and leak detection . The company is based in Baunach in Upper Franconia . SebaKMT has been a member of the Megger Group since July 2012 .
history
Seba Dynatronic
In 1951 Herbert Iann founded Seba Dynatronic as a commercial agency for industrial plants, and soon expanded the company to include the production and development of measurement technology for the location of leaks in drinking water distribution networks. This was followed by devices for line location, fault location devices for power cables and telecommunications cables. In 1971 the first fully equipped power cable measuring vehicle was delivered, and the company has been working in this area to this day.
The children of the company founder, Max Iann and Adriane Iann, continued to run the company after his death in 1995. Around 95 percent of all SebaKMT products are in-house developments.
Hagenuk KMT
Established in 1948 from the expropriated Radio Mende company , VEB Funkwerk Dresden paved the way for cable fault location . After initially continuing to produce oscilloscopes and tone generators , the first fault location device was brought onto the market in 1952 - from then on the focus was only on further developing cable measurement technology. After further inventions in the field of cable fault location , above all that of the fault location vehicle in 1960, they were ahead of all Western companies in the field of cable measurement technology, contrary to conventions. However, this lead could not make the company competitive after the fall of the Berlin Wall due to the unsustainable size of the company and the collapse of the markets in Eastern Europe. Even the merger with Salzgitter Elektronik GmbH to form Hagenuk KMT Kabelmesstechnik GmbH did not bring the hoped-for arrangement of inventive talent and financial basis, so that in 1995 Seba Dynatronic took over Hagenuk KMT from Radeburg, Saxony, which was facing bankruptcy. SebaKMT started its business in 2000 as a joint sales organization.
Acquisitions and mergers
HDW Electronics, Inc., which has its production facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania , was taken over by Seba-Dynatronic in 1996 and has been part of SebaKMT since 2000.
Takeover by the Megger Group
Since 2012, SebaKMT has been part of the British Megger Group, a provider of measuring and testing devices for the energy industry. Before the takeover by Megger, SebaKMT's export share was around 70%. With the merger, the product portfolio was also restructured:
- The SebaKMT brand offers all devices and services in the field of water - Made in Germany.
- Under the Megger brand, customers can find all of Megger's services as well as the previous SebaKMT devices in the energy sector.
Research, development, training
With almost 70 developers at the German locations and a cost share of over 10% of sales, the company invests in new developments. In addition to its own research and development, SebaKMT maintains close contact with universities and colleges as well as international experts.
At the German production sites in Baunach and Radeburg, seminars are held throughout the year to familiarize themselves with the new equipment and to share experiences with one another. Approx. 40,000 specialists, including over 17,000 foreign guests, have been instructed and trained in the SebaKMT's premises to date. (Status 2011)
Product lines
- Centrix cable test vehicle
Centrix 2.0 is a cable test van system for quick, easy and cable-friendly fault location up to a voltage range of 33 kV. Equipped with cable diagnostics in connection with VLF testing technology, Centrix 2.0 enables cable testing with accompanying partial discharge diagnostics. An operating concept with automated measurement processes via touch display or JogDial (rotary knob) enables faults to be found quickly.
- digiPHONE +
The digiPHONE + is a pinpointing device that is essentially based on the detection and evaluation of the sound generated when the cable breaks down. Due to the BNR (Background Noise Reduction) technology used for the first time in the digiphone +, it is the first floor microphone that almost completely suppresses ambient noise and only allows error noise. This means that cable fault location can be carried out without any problems even on roads with traffic or in busy places.
- Sebalog N-3
The Sebalog N-3 noise level logger determines the vibration that occurs on the pipe wall when water escapes through a leak. To do this, it simultaneously measures the noise level (db) and the frequency of a leak. While the level alone only documents the general presence of a leak, in connection with the frequency it also provides information about its approximate distance in relation to other loggers. He can then send the results of the measurements to the control center using GPS.
- vLocPro2
The vLocPro2 is used to locate and route pipes and cables. It is also able to measure the depth of the located pipe. Due to its wide frequency spectrum, precise localization is required under all conditions. The vLocPro2 system compatible with GPS receivers.
Inventions and patents
Most of the inventions in the field of cable measurement technology have been patented by the companies that are now part of SebaKMT.
year | invention | Patent rights | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
1949 | Pulse-echo method | KMT (Prof. Werner Kroebel) | A method in which the transit time of a pulse on a cable is used to determine the location of a fault. Among other things implemented in IG1 (sr) |
1960 | Shock wave method | HDW and Balteau | Procedure for pinpointing high-resistance, non-convertible faults. |
1960 | Cable test vehicle | KMT | In 1960 VEB RFT Meßelektronik Dresden produced the world's first cable test vehicle, the FOF 101. |
1965 | ARM (Arc Reflection Method) | HDW | In this process, a surge capacitor is discharged via an optimized series impedance to ignite the arc at the fault location . |
1968 | Minimum turbidity method | Seba | With this method it was possible to precisely locate core-shield faults . |
1972 | Stress decay method | HDW | The fault wire is charged with direct voltage via a high-frequency choke. After reaching the flashover voltage, the cable capacitance is discharged in the form of a dampened oscillation. By determining the period time, the distance to the rollover point can be calculated. |
1983 | Passive arc process | HDW | A capacitor charge is brought to the point of failure and an arc is generated there. A normal pulse-echo measuring device is then connected via a high-voltage-proof capacitor , a normal reflection measurement is carried out and stored in the transient recorder . When comparing the resting echogram with the error echogram, the error is easy to measure. |
1985 | Active arc process | Seba | ARM method, in which the arc can be kept constant over a certain period of time by adding a second energy. |
1990 | ARM Plus | Seba | The ARM Plus process is a process with active arc stabilization for cable faults up to a maximum surge voltage of 32 kV. |
1999 | Super maximum | Seba | Very precise location with the best signal exactly above the line and no signal next to the line. |
1999 | Signal Select | Seba | Method for recognizing the signal flow direction in a line, which significantly increases the safety and efficiency of a clear route determination . |
2001 | ICE Plus | Seba | Expansion of the current pulse method. |
2011 | BNP (Background Noise Reduction) | Seba | Noise elimination from ground microphones . Here, the breakdown noise is reduced very quickly to the actual content of the breakdown noise by an active averaging process. |
